Project 1k50's objective is to mobilize, organize and train 50 NYSC Lawyers for a stipend-paying Volunteer Programme to provide world-class legal representation to a minimum of 1,000 awaiting trial inmates (ATI) in the prisons in Lagos State, Nigeria.
The Project has the 3-pronged effect of: (i) Prison Decongestion; (ii) Capacity building/training for "New Wigs"; (iii) Sensitization on and correction of the human rights breaches in the Nigerian Criminal Justice System.
The Project is designed as a pilot for a program of action that will likely be replicated throughout Nigeria.
HRF is confident that the Project will engender some significant reforms in the Criminal Justice Administration System while using the opportunity to breed a set of world-class Criminal Law Attorneys in Nigeria.
